Representative Poetry Online is a web anthology of over 4,800 poems spanning from poetry of the Old English period to present-day. Based on the book Representative Poetry (published by the University of Toronto Press in 1912), it was founded in an electronic format by RPO’s current editor, Ian Lancashire, member of the Department of English at the University of Toronto, in 1994. Today, the web anthology has poems by poets of numerous nationalities, including many familiar Canadians such as Margaret Atwood, Phyllis Gotlieb, Stephen Leacock, Lucy Maud Montgomery and Matthew Tierney. The website also contains a poetry map marking locations mentioned in poems, a calendar that highlights important events in the history of poetry, as well as a poetry timeline that lists important dates in poetry. This is a website that’s sure to be of interest to poetry lovers.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, Open Book: Ontario will be posting a Poetry Post each week day. Do you have a poetry-related link that you think we should know about? Please send it to [email protected]
