Niagara Region Poetry Contest Extends Its Deadline

If you were feeling the crunch for the Niagara Poetry Contest, fear not. Due to increased interest contest organizers have decided to extend the deadline to Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Poems must be submitted by 4 p.m.

Two winning poems, one in English and one in French, will be selected. Each poem will be read in front of Regional Council on Thursday, May 3, 2012.

Organizers ask that, “poems areaoriginal, imaginative and showcase the wonderful qualities of Niagara. They may be new or previously written, provided they have not previously been published or recognized. Poems can be of any style (rhyming, free verse, etc.), but may not exceed one page in length.”

Winning poets will receive $175, travel to the Niagara Region Headquarters and the reading of their poems before the Niagara Region Council. Winning poems will be read into the formal minutes of Regional Council, and may be placed on the Niagara Cultural Capital of Canada website and/or the Niagara Region website.

To Submit:
All poems must have a title. Submissions must include the author's full name, address, and contact information (including day and evening phone number and email) and age if under 18. If the poem is submitted by a minor (under 18), the information of a parent or guardian should be given as well.

Poems must be submitted to [email protected] with the subject line Poetry Contest, or they may be dropped off or mailed to:
