Puce River Black Community Cemetery

The Puce River region was home to the Refugee Home Society - an organization led by Henry and Mary Bibb - that helped escaped slaves who came to the area via the Underground Railroad. The now-free slaves were provided with opportunities of land ownership and self-sufficiency.This site marks where a British Methodist Episcopal Church and cemetery once served the community. The site is located on County Rd 42 in Belle River and is marked by a plaque with fenced-in grounds.
